Victor Osimhen's likelihood of staying at Napoli for another season appears to be increasing due to emerging complications in his potential transfer to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The Nigerian striker has been linked with a move away from Napoli this summer, but his €130 million release clause has deterred suitors, particularly from the English Premier League. PSG renewed their interest in Osimhen last week, with this week expected to be decisive in the transfer process.
Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, was in Paris last week to negotiate with PSG, who are reportedly considering a player-plus-cash swap deal. However, recent reports from Italy suggest Osimhen is contemplating staying at Napoli to discuss his future with coach Antonio Conte, due to setbacks in his move to PSG.
Sources in France indicate that PSG is now focused on addressing the gap left by Kylian Mbappe. According to L’Equipe, PSG needs to offload either Gonçalo Ramos or Randal Kolo Muani before advancing with Osimhen's signing. Neither forward is currently willing to leave PSG, causing the transfer talks to stall.
L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi noted on X (formerly Twitter) that negotiations between PSG and Napoli have "cooled down" as PSG must first sell Ramos or Kolo Muani. Tanzi also mentioned that Osimhen has privately considered staying at Napoli for another season but still needs to discuss the matter with Conte.
Although Conte stated that Osimhen is not in his plans for the upcoming season, he acknowledged the striker's positive attitude during pre-season training, despite excluding him from friendly matches. Napoli remains keen on selling Osimhen this summer, as the funds from his transfer are crucial for acquiring Romelu Lukaku and finding Osimhen's replacement.
