JAMB Releases Additional 531 UTME Results Amid Rising Exam Malpractice Concerns

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the release of an additional 531 results from the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), part of the over 64,000 results initially withheld due to various screening processes. This latest release increases the total number of results made available to candidates to 1,842,897.

In a recent development, JAMB also reported an increase in detected examination malpractice cases, with the number rising from 81 to 92 during the ongoing scrutiny of the withheld results. According to Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB's Public Communication Advisor, these figures may change as the Board continues to investigate issues related to unverified candidates. A decision on these cases is expected to be announced soon.

JAMB has faced challenges this testing season, including combating false reports and misinformation. The Board has refuted claims circulating online about an unknown candidate receiving scores without sitting for the exam, describing these allegations as "fake, malicious and a calculated attempt to undermine the integrity of the Board." The statement emphasized the robustness of JAMB's examination system, which is designed to prevent such irregularities and is not a platform where scores are arbitrarily assigned.

In light of these incidents, the Board is contemplating further enhancements to the result checking process to prevent manipulation and ensure the authenticity of results. Dr. Benjamin highlighted that future modifications might include adding registration numbers to the UTME Result checking procedure, making it more secure and difficult to tamper with.

JAMB reiterated that the official method for candidates to check their 2024 UTME results remains sending 'UTMERESULT' via SMS to 55019 or 66019. This method is aimed at safeguarding candidate information and maintaining the integrity of the examination process. The Board has warned candidates to keep their personal details secure and avoid sharing them with third parties, cautioning that involvement with fraudulent activities could lead to severe consequences.

As JAMB continues to process the remaining withheld results, it calls for vigilance among candidates and the public, urging them to rely solely on official communications and resist misleading narratives that could undermine the credibility of the examination process
