Chelsea Proposes Lukaku Plus Cash for Napoli's Victor Osimhen

Chelsea FC has entered the race to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, offering an audacious deal of €90 million plus Romelu Lukaku for the Nigerian striker. This move comes shortly after Paris Saint-Germain submitted their bid, aiming to secure Osimhen as a potential replacement for the outgoing Kylian Mbappé.

Osimhen, who recently extended his contract with Napoli, setting his release clause at about €130 million, has attracted significant attention following his outstanding performances in Serie A. Despite the high release clause, top European clubs including PSG, Manchester United, and Liverpool are gearing up to negotiate for the highly rated striker.

According to reports from Il Corriere dello Sport, PSG currently leads the race for Osimhen, envisioning him as the ideal successor to Mbappé. Nonetheless, Chelsea has made a compelling offer to Napoli, proposing a package that includes cash plus Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who has expressed a desire to continue his career in Italy following his loan stints at Inter Milan and Roma.

Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport Italia highlighted that Chelsea’s strategy involves lowering the financial burden of the transfer by including Lukaku in the deal. This approach might align well with Napoli’s interests, especially with the impending arrival of Giovanni Manna as the new director of sport, who reportedly has a keen interest in Lukaku from his previous attempt to sign him for Juventus.

Victor Osimhen's track record speaks volumes, with 26 goals in the last Serie A season, propelling Napoli to their first league title in 33 years, and a total of 31 goals across all competitions. His consistent performance despite missing part of the season due to injuries and international duty underlines his value as one of Europe's premier strikers.

As negotiations unfold, Chelsea’s offer adds an interesting twist to the ongoing transfer saga, potentially setting the stage for a bidding war among Europe's footballing giants.
