The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has announced the arrest of 45 individuals allegedly involved in various criminal activities across the state. These crimes include kidnapping, vandalism, theft, burglary, and cultism.
Parading the suspects at the corps headquarters in Akure, the state capital, Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye revealed that the arrests were made within a two-week period of intense operations by the corps.
Adeleye explained that out of the 45 suspects, seven were already undergoing court proceedings, but their cooperation was sought to aid ongoing investigations. Permission was granted by the court to extend their custody for further questioning, hence their inclusion in the parade.
Highlighting a notable case, Adeleye mentioned the apprehension of criminals involved in the vandalism of electricity transformers. One of the suspects suffered severe burns during the act, prompting his arrest after receiving medical treatment. Despite attempts to evade capture, the suspect was eventually located, leading to the discovery of nine other members of the gang, including their leader who is currently at large.
Additionally, Adeleye mentioned the re-arrest of a kidnapping suspect named Jubril, who had been previously released on bail for the same offense. Jubril was apprehended again within 48 hours of his release, further underscoring the challenges posed by recidivism in combating crime.
The Amotekun commander affirmed the corps' commitment to maintaining security across Ondo State through continuous patrols and swift response to criminal activities.
