On April 28, 2024, in a significant farewell event held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra State, retiring Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, declared his ambitious plans to enter the business realm, setting his sights on challenging Africa's wealthiest businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote. Adeoye, who has served the police force for 35 years, has been a key figure in addressing security issues in Anambra, having confronted various militant threats throughout his career.
During his valedictory speech, Adeoye recounted his extensive experiences on the front lines against groups like Boko-Haram, the Niger Delta militants, and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He credited his survival and success to the rigorous trainings he received both in Nigeria and internationally, and the support from the Nigerian Police Force and collaborative security agencies.
Adeoye also highlighted his involvement in founding the Alpha Trust Investment Club (ATIC) in 2018, an initiative that has since grown to a substantial N20 billion in investments. With his retirement officially beginning on May 1, Adeoye expressed his intention to transition full-time into business, leveraging his investment acumen to potentially rival Dangote's industrial empire within the next decade.
The event saw the absence of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who was represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim. Ibezim lauded Adeoye’s contributions to the state’s security and stability, noting the significant improvements in local safety under his watch. The deputy governor also honored Adeoye's service by declaring him a citizen of Anambra, acknowledging the street named after him and several awards he received during his tenure.
As Adeoye embarks on this new chapter, his ambitions reflect a profound shift from public service to significant entrepreneurial pursuits, aiming to make a mark on the African business landscape
