Private School Owners Call for Government Support on Security and Tax Relief

Private school proprietors across Nigeria have issued a plea for government assistance concerning security, tax reductions, and supportive policies to enhance their operations. This appeal was made during a capacity-building training session themed “Quality Assurance Compliance & Safety Precautions in Schools,” organized by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Lagos.

During the event, Bodunde Samuel, Chairman of the Alimosho chapter of NAPPS, emphasized the importance of maintaining a cooperative relationship with the government to ensure compliance with regulatory policies without compromising the quality of education provided. Samuel highlighted the dual goals of the collaboration: "It is crucial for us to align with government policies to prevent any legal issues, and concurrently, we urge the government to support us by fortifying security at schools, streamlining quality assurance processes, and simplifying the tax regime to eliminate the burden of double taxation."

Chief Alaka Yusuf Lukman, President of the Lagos State chapter of NAPPS, also commented on the significance of the training, noting its role in preparing teachers for the upcoming school term. Lukman pointed out the necessity for teachers to understand and implement safety measures and quality controls effectively. "Our focus is to ensure that every aspect of our schools, from the physical structures to the well-being of students and parents, adheres to the highest standards of safety and quality," he said.

The proprietors' call to the government underscores the critical challenges faced by private educational institutions in navigating the complexities of operating within a stringent regulatory environment while also striving to provide safe and high-quality educational experiences.
