The Nigeria Police Force has announced the relocation of 347 families from the dilapidated Faolomo Police Barracks in Lagos. Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that these families have been compensated with allowances to facilitate their move.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Adejobi clarified that no police barracks in Lagos have been sold, contrary to recent social media reports suggesting otherwise. The police are undertaking a comprehensive renovation of several barracks across the state, including the Falomo Barracks in Ikoyi.
The recent social media buzz about the poor state of police barracks, including images of deteriorated facilities, had led to criticism of the Force regarding the welfare of its officers. Adejobi addressed these concerns, stating, “We appreciate the interest shown in the welfare of police personnel and aim to provide accurate information regarding the redevelopment of our barracks.”
The redevelopment plan involves partnerships with state governments and reputable developers to transform the existing barracks into modern, well-equipped facilities. The project aims to provide upgraded infrastructure and additional facilities.
As part of this initiative, occupants of Falomo Barracks Blocks A and B have each been given N2 million as temporary relocation allowance. This payment was made following a validation process to support their move.
Adejobi emphasized that this redevelopment effort extends beyond the Falomo Barracks, with similar projects planned for police barracks nationwide. The Force intends to complete the renovations swiftly and offer the relocated families new accommodations in the updated facilities.
