Military Transfers Rescued Chibok Girl and 330 Other Victims to Borno

Major-General Shuaibu Waidi, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai in the North East, has officially handed over a rescued Chibok schoolgirl, Ihi Abdul, her two children, and 330 other women and children to the Borno State government. These individuals were rescued during various military operations in the Sambisa forest, a known Boko Haram stronghold.

During a press briefing at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Major-General Waidi announced, "Today, we are witnessing the handover of the rescued Chibok girl and other women and children to Borno State officials for further management."

He emphasized the military's ongoing commitment to rescuing the remaining Chibok girls still in captivity, in alignment with directives from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. Waidi acknowledged the critical support provided by the Chief of Army Staff, which has been instrumental in the successful rescue operations.

"The plight of the remaining Chibok girls continues to be a national concern, prompting several military operations aimed at their rescue. To date, 19 Chibok girls have been freed through direct military action," he stated.

Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, highlighted that Ihi Abdul was rescued by the 22 Taskforce Brigade. Abdul, from Kuburbula village in Chibok Local Government Area, was listed as number 67 among the abducted Chibok schoolgirls. She was forcibly married to Boko Haram Commander Abu Darda and, after fleeing to Senegal, was married off to three different men.

"Abdul, rescued with her two children and currently three months pregnant, has undergone necessary medical checks and is now being handed over to the Borno State government for further care," Brigadier General Haruna explained.
