Flood Takes Over Nasarawa Federal Varsity Halls, Stalls Lectures

Several lecture halls at the Federal University of Lafia have been inundated by floods following a week-long torrential rainfall in Nasarawa State. The deluge has rendered many parts of the university campus inaccessible, leaving students stranded outside their classes.

One student, identified as Mr. Felix, voiced frustration, urging the university management to address the flooding issue urgently to prevent future disruptions. He criticized the placement of some campus buildings in flood-prone areas and called for government intervention through land surveyors to mitigate the recurring problem.

In response to the crisis, the Nasarawa State Government has initiated measures to combat flooding in tertiary institutions across the state. Margaret Elayo, the State Commissioner for Special Duties on Humanitarian Services and NGOs, inspected the affected areas and assured the university community of the government's support.

Elayo emphasized that the state government is committed to finding solutions to reduce the impact of floods and assist the university in resuming normal academic activities. She noted that her visit aimed to assess the extent of the damage and pledged to work with the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency to explore possible remedies.

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency had earlier predicted significant flooding in Nasarawa and other states this rainy season.
