A fervent call echoes across Nigeria's political landscape as supporters of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima unite in a resounding plea for the immediate release of Amb. Adejare Adegbenro, the acting Director General of the National Commission for the Co-ordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms, Ammunitions, and Light Weapons (NATCOM).
Since April 26, 2024, Adegbenro has remained in police custody, a move triggered by a petition from a faction within the security establishment. However, the Tinubu Shettima Divine Mandate Initiative (TSDMI), a staunch advocate for the two political figures, vehemently protests Adegbenro's prolonged detention without formal charges, citing a blatant violation of his fundamental rights.
In a press conference held in Abuja, Mr. Mutiu Abolade, the South West Zonal Coordinator of TSDMI, urged for Adegbenro's prompt release, emphasizing his esteemed status as their grand patron and an esteemed diplomat committed to peace, security, and national progress.
The group's outcry intensifies as they decry the neglect of Adegbenro's rights, highlighting the breach of international diplomatic conventions, including the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, to which Nigeria is a signatory. They stress the imperative nature of justice, urging President Tinubu's intervention to ensure adherence to the rule of law and the immediate release of Adegbenro.
"Ambassador Dr. Adegbenro, a distinguished diplomat, embodies the aspirations of our nation's renewed hope agenda," the group affirms, underlining his significant contributions to Nigeria's international standing and cooperation.
Amidst this outcry for justice, the TSDMI champions the cause for the protection of every Nigerian's rights, especially those of eminent diplomats like Ambassador Dr. Adegbenro, vowing to persist until justice prevails and his freedom is secured.
