Rivers State Governor Admits Error in Gubernatorial Support: Vows to Rectify

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has publicly acknowledged that supporting Sir Siminalayi Fubara's gubernatorial candidacy in the 2023 elections for Rivers State was an error. Speaking at a civic reception honoring Senator George Sekibo, Wike admitted his mistake and asked for forgiveness from the people of the state and his political associates.

He emphasized that he would rectify the mistake concerning Fubara at the appropriate time. Despite facing recent developments from Fubara's camp amid ongoing political turmoil in the state, Wike remained resolute in his stance. He asserted that no last-minute injunctions would thwart the due legal process.

Responding to remarks from Fubara's camp regarding worshipping individuals, Wike clarified that he had never demanded such adulation. Instead, he highlighted the importance of appreciating those who have supported him in his political endeavors.

During the event, Wike reassured embattled Rivers lawmakers of their security, assuring them that their positions were secure. He urged them not to fear removal and vowed to continue making efforts to instill fear in his detractors.

Wike stressed the importance of maintaining peace in the state, urging his supporters to pursue peaceful means. He dismissed attempts to destabilize his administration and expressed confidence in overcoming challenges through unity and adherence to due process.
