President Tinubu Commits to Food Self-Sufficiency in Nigeria

During a significant event in Niger State, President Bola Tinubu affirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving food self-sufficiency in Nigeria. The pledge was made at the commencement of the N169.7 billion Bida-Minna Road project, a development expected to enhance economic growth and connectivity within the region.

Speaking through Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, at the event in Kakakpagi, Katch Local Government Area, President Tinubu outlined his vision for Nigeria's agricultural independence. “Nigeria will achieve food self-sufficiency during my time in office,” he stated, underscoring the importance of cooperation between federal and state governments to foster overall development and prosperity.

The road project, spanning 84 kilometers, is part of a broader initiative to improve infrastructure and safety, thereby stimulating economic opportunities. President Tinubu highlighted the role of such developments in saving lives and fostering economic expansion.

Adding a personal note to his commitments, President Tinubu, who also holds the traditional title of Jagaba Borgu, expressed his dedication to fostering development in Niger State, acknowledging his deep ties to the area.

Governor Umaru Bago, also speaking at the ceremony, described the road construction as a fulfillment of promises made under the New Niger Agenda. He emphasized the project's economic significance and its role in shifting away from past inefficiencies towards establishing a robust infrastructure network.

“This project not only promises improved infrastructure but marks a step towards redefining Niger State as a benchmark for socio-economic development in Nigeria,” Governor Bago stated.

The ceremony also included acknowledgments of local leadership, with commendations directed at Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, for maintaining peace in the area.

As Nigeria moves forward under President Tinubu’s leadership, the twin goals of infrastructural development and food self-sufficiency remain pivotal to his administration’s objectives, setting a hopeful tone for the future.
