Ohanaeze Ndigbo Urges Peter Obi to Adopt Diplomatic Approach in Infrastructure Criticisms

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural organization, has expressed concern over the public criticisms by Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, directed at Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, particularly regarding the Lagos-Calabar road project. In a statement by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the group advised Mr. Obi to address his disagreements with Senator Umahi in a more diplomatic and private manner, rather than through public confrontations.

The organization highlighted that such public criticisms of significant infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road could be perceived as not aligning with national interests, especially concerning the motives behind these criticisms, which has stirred unease within the Igbo community.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo praised Senator Umahi's efforts in his role as Minister of Works and advocated for a constructive approach to resolving any issues related to infrastructure projects. The statement emphasized the importance of respectful dialogue and collaboration in infrastructure development, cautioning against public disputes that could hinder progress, particularly in the Southeast.

Additionally, the statement referenced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's involvement in revitalizing major federal highways in the Southeast, marking a significant shift in addressing the long-standing neglect of essential infrastructure in the region. This development is reportedly being advanced through innovative cement technology and strategic leadership by both President Tinubu and Senator Umahi.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo dismissed rumors of Mr. Obi's impending arrest as baseless and malicious, attributing them to elements intent on disrupting the positive advancements under Senator Umahi's leadership. The organization also lauded the recent allocation of a 2.75 billion compensation fund for property owners affected by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, seeing it as a demonstration of the government's commitment to humane infrastructure development.

In conclusion, Ohanaeze Ndigbo reaffirmed its dedication to fostering a harmonious environment conducive to progress and equitable development for all Nigerians. The group called upon all stakeholders to prioritize collective advancement, engage in meaningful dialogue, and avoid divisive tactics to ensure the realization of a prosperous and united Nigeria
