In a remarkable financial performance, the Niger State Internal Revenue Service (NGSIRS) has announced a dramatic 170% increase in its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the first quarter of 2024. According to Aminu Bawa, the group head of tax operations at NGSIRS, the agency collected a substantial N7,031,981,398.93 from January to March 2024. This figure starkly contrasts with the N2,605,507,197.15 collected during the same period in 2023.
The executive chairman of NGSIRS, Mohammed Etsu, attributed this significant revenue growth to the robust support from Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago and the innovative strategies implemented by the agency's management. Etsu highlighted that under the new administration's influence, the revenue service managed to collect a total of N21,675,361,059.11 for the entire year of 2023, showing a healthy increase from the N16,848,325,487.70 recorded in 2022.
With a clear vision for the future, Etsu expressed confidence that the revenue service is well on its path to meet its ambitious 2024 budgetary target of N5 billion per month. The NGSIRS is putting all necessary mechanisms in place to ensure they achieve these targets, setting a robust financial trajectory for the state.
