In a significant crackdown, the Taraba State Police Command has captured three men suspected of supplying arms to the infamous terrorist, Ali Kachalla, and various bandit groups across Niger, Zamfara, and Katsina states. The operation was based on actionable intelligence and conducted in collaboration with the FID-STS, leading to the arrest of Ibrahim Mohammed, Rabiu Abdullahi, and Umar Wara.
During the arrest operation, which took place across several local government areas including Gassol, Jalingo, Yorro, and Takum, the police managed to seize a cache of weapons. The suspects, identified as key figures in a network terrorizing these regions, were found with an AK-47 rifle and 85 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
Commissioner of Police, David Iloyanomon, revealed the arrests while presenting the suspects to the media. He detailed that the three had confessed to supplying over 50 rifles and 3,000 rounds of ammunition to various outlawed groups, thereby fueling ongoing violence in several states.
Alongside these arrests, the police also detained 25 other individuals linked to crimes ranging from kidnapping and armed robbery to cybercrime and cattle rustling. This operation marks a significant stride towards dismantling networks of violence and crime in the region.
