President Tinubu Pledges to Leverage Technology in the Fight Against Corruption

During a recent discussion at the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu declared his administration's commitment to employing technology as a fundamental tool in battling corruption and enhancing government transparency. The announcement came during a meeting with philanthropist and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

President Tinubu emphasized the role of technology in driving transparency, accountability, and improved public-sector performance, ensuring better service delivery across Nigeria. According to Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, the president views technological advancements as crucial in combating financial misconduct within public services.

"Technology is the enemy of fraud, corruption, and irregularity," said President Tinubu, acknowledging the usual resistance encountered in the initial stages of implementing new systems aimed at curbing malfeasance. "However, once we overcome these hurdles, the benefits are substantial and nationwide."

Drawing on his experiences as the former governor of Lagos State, President Tinubu recounted how technological innovations had significantly bolstered the state's revenue by streamlining tax collection processes and enhancing data utilization. This prior success serves as a blueprint for his current focus on nationwide initiatives, including the development of a national consumer credit system among other pivotal government projects.

With these technological strategies, President Tinubu's administration aims to create a robust framework for corruption resistance, ultimately leading to a more efficient and equitable governance model for Nigeria.
