In a daring confrontation, a group of passengers, including a family traveling for wedding preparations, successfully repelled an attack by armed bandits on the Talata Mafara-Gusau highway in Zamfara State, resulting in the death of one assailant and the seizure of two AK-47 rifles.
The incident occurred as the bride-to-be's family was en route to Kano to shop for wedding attire and other necessities. They were ambushed by two armed individuals on motorcycles, according to a report from PRNigeria. The attackers initially managed to halt their vehicle and commanded the bride-to-be, along with her parents and two relatives, to alight and follow them towards the forest.
An eyewitness recounted to PRNigeria that the passengers, realizing the imminent threat of abduction, decided to fight back. They managed to overpower one of the bandits during a sudden scuffle, leading to his fatal injury, while the second bandit fled the scene, abandoning one of the rifles.
The triumphant passengers then carried the captured firearms to a nearby military checkpoint, turning them over to the authorities.
The report also mentioned that the high-stress encounter led to a tragic outcome for one of the passengers, who suffered a heart attack due to the ordeal and later passed away in a local hospital. The community has praised the bravery of the passengers for their courageous act in the face of danger
