NELFUND Pledges Transparency and Accountability in Student Loan Management

 



The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyer, assures the public that the fund will be managed with utmost transparency and accountability. Emphasizing its purpose to support underprivileged students' access to education, Sawyer ensures that every penny allocated will be dedicated to this cause.

Speaking at a stakeholders' forum themed "Sustenance of Education Loan for the Development of Nigerian Economy," held in collaboration with the Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance (CACOBAG) at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Sawyer highlights the importance of transparency for the program's success. He calls for stakeholder support and emphasizes the need for accountability to ensure the effective utilization of funds.

CACOBAG Chairman Toyin Raheem recognizes the significance of the Education Loan in providing quality education to indigent students nationwide, expressing confidence in its success.

The chairperson of the occasion, Ms. Yemisi Ransome-Kuti, commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the program, acknowledging its role as a catalyst for development. She stresses the importance of establishing a transparent monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure the loans reach deserving students and encourages beneficiary feedback mechanisms.

Vincent Bakare, a former Chief Accountant of Chevron, appreciates the scheme's introduction by the Tinubu administration and advises against creating overly burdensome repayment plans for students.
