Liverpool FC has officially reached an agreement with Feyenoord to appoint Arne Slot as the new manager following Jurgen Klopp's departure at the end of the season. This transition comes after a fruitful nine-year period under Klopp, who won both the Champions League and Premier League titles during his tenure.
British media, including the Press Association and the BBC, reported that Liverpool has settled a compensation package worth approximately £9.4 million (€10.9 million) to secure the 45-year-old Slot, who had two years remaining on his Feyenoord contract.
Slot expressed his optimism about the move prior to the agreement, stating, "I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I’m waiting to see whether the clubs reach an agreement. I’m very confident in that."
Arne Slot took the helm at Feyenoord in 2021, after a notable stint at AZ Alkmaar, and quickly made an impact by leading the team to the Europa Conference League final in his first season, where they narrowly lost to Roma. The following season, he clinched the Eredivisie title, marking only the second league victory for Feyenoord in 24 years.
Jurgen Klopp praised Slot's approach to football, saying, "I like the way his team plays football. If he is the one, I like that he wants it. I don’t know him personally, but some people who know him say he’s a good guy. Good coach, good guy. Looking forward for the club, if he is the solution, if he is the man, I’m more than happy."
As Slot prepares to take over at Anfield, Liverpool remains in contention in the Premier League, though recent losses have dented their title hopes. Meanwhile, Feyenoord sits second in the Eredivisie, trailing leaders PSV Eindhoven by nine points, underscoring the challenges both Slot and Klopp face in their current roles.
