Governor Aiyedatiwa Wins Ondo APC Primary, Secures Party's Nomination for Governorship Election

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary, securing his position as the party's candidate for the upcoming governorship election on November 16 in Ondo State.

In a decisive win, Governor Aiyedatiwa garnered a total of 48,569 votes, significantly outpacing his main rival, Mayowa Akinfolarin, who received 15,343 votes. Chief Olusola Oke followed closely behind in third place with 14,865 votes. The results were announced by the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, Ahmed Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, who commended the competitive spirit of the primaries.

The primary election, which took place across the 18 council areas of Ondo State, saw active participation from party members, despite reports of disruptions due to violence in the Ifedore area, where no voting occurred.

With the nomination now secure, Governor Aiyedatiwa and the APC are focusing on uniting the party and strengthening their campaign efforts as they prepare for the gubernatorial contest in November.

During the announcement, Governor Ododo echoed the sentiments of APC leader President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing the importance of unity within the party despite the competitive nature of the primaries: "In our own room today, we are all in the same room as a family, and as such, we have no need to abandon the party, irrespective of today’s outcome." This call for solidarity highlights the party's commitment to maintaining cohesion as they approach the forthcoming election.
