The Federal High Court in Lagos State has granted Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties of equal value.
During his trial before Justice Kehinde Ogundare, the celebrity barman pleaded not guilty to charges of tampering and abusing the naira.
Cubana Chief Priest stands accused of violating the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007 by allegedly spraying and tampering with the nation's currency at a social event, particularly at Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024.
The charges brought against him include allegations of spraying funds in the denomination of N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria during a social event in Lagos in 2020, as well as in January 2024.
Notably, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently secured the conviction of another celebrity, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on similar charges, resulting in a six-month imprisonment sentence.
The EFCC has been actively investigating several celebrities for alleged naira abuse, emphasizing its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring accountability for such offenses.
